Frequently Asked Questions

How do you determine league championship?
Is it based on overall record in both American and National or your record in the league you are in?

It is based on overall record. Supposedly every team plays same # of games against the same teams, therefore the total record is based on all games.
At the end of the season, there will be one postseason tournament with teams seated based on overall record.
There will be an all star team for both divisions. Players selected from teams only in there division.

When is league registration?
Each participating association has different registration dates.  Contact your local association for details.  This website will soon provide registration links to each association's Babe Ruth information page.  Association links are also provided at the top of this webpage for your convenience.

When does the season start?
Practice for the 13 year olds will begin as Middle School baseball is ending, usually around April.  Practice ofr the older age groups will begin as High School season is ending, around Mid May.

Where will games be played?
Games will be played on Babe Ruth fields around the county and on some high school fields.

Who are the players?
Players will be any age eligible baseball player.  Many of the players play baseball on their school's middle school, High School JV and High School Varsity teams.

Is the league competitive?
Yes!  The teams are as competitive as any travel teams you see. Teams will be made up of the best players from the area schools.  Typically these are the players who represent their school on their Middle School and High School teams.

What is the advantage of playing?
Players will play on teams will players they currently go to school with and play school baseball with.  Games are played locally and the cost is relatively low versus travel ball while providing comparable competition.

What if my son wants to play travel ball also?
There is not enough time for players to play a full Babe Ruth schedule and travel ball schedule.

What about All Stars?
At the end of the regular season All Star teams will be selected in each age group.  These teams will be the best baseball players from Union County.  These teams will compete in the Babe Ruth State Tournament and if successful will compete in the Babe Ruth South East Regional.  Last year the 13, 14, and 15 year old Union County teams all won the NC State tournament and advanced to the South East Regional tournaments where the 14 year old team finished 4th and the 15 year old team finished 2nd.
